Peer Tutors

The Effectiveness of Peer Tutors

We rely on the strengths of our student body to educate their peers. Our tutors have been thoroughly trained to instruct students on various subjects. 

Requirements of our Tutors: 

 

As a tutor in our program, there are certain requirements that you must achieve and maintain. 

 

  • Achieve and maintain a C- or higher in all of your classes

  • Complete 20 duty hours *

  • Attend 3 training sessions with an instructor *

 

*does not apply to students currently enrolled in tutor course

 

Our goal is to provide students with knowledgable tutors to help with instruction and understanding of material. 

The Do's and Dont's of Tutoring:

 

Do: 

  • Be patient

  • Be friendly

  • Ask Questions

  • Encourage Student

  • Sit next to the student

  • Give the student control

  • Understand there are many ways to give instruction

 

Don't: 

  • Give answers

  • Speak for the student

  • Talk about a student outside of their session
